About the calculation

Which commission rate should I enter?
Booking.com typically charges a 15 percent base commission in the Netherlands, but with the Genius program and extra visibility options it can climb to 18 to 25 percent. Hostelworld sits around 15 percent. Enter the percentage you actually pay on average.
Why do you use 4.5 percent for direct bookings?
A direct booking is not free. You pay payment transaction fees (roughly 1.5 to 2 percent) and a booking engine fee (a fixed amount or a small percentage). Together that comes to about 4.5 percent, far lower than OTA commission.
Is this exactly what I'll save?
No, it's an estimate. Your actual savings depend on how many bookings you genuinely shift to your own site and what your marketing costs. The calculator shows the order of magnitude, so you know whether it's worth taking action.
Am I allowed to be cheaper on my own site than on Booking?
Yes. Since September 2024, the rate parity clause has been banned across the EU under the Digital Markets Act. You can show a lower price or a better offer on your own channel than on Booking.com. That makes shifting to direct bookings a lot easier.
